KTV Review: Incredible

Joe Regan reviews Incredible, which showcased at this year’s KTV Film Festival. You can watch the film here. Writer-director Arnie Voysey’s raucous crowd-pleaser went down a storm with the packed audience at the 2016 KTV Festival. The character-centered gambling thriller had the viewers at the Easter Sunday screening running the gamut of emotions. With pockets of humour mechanically tooled to satisfy the ‘Inbetweeners’ generation and plenty of moments to audibly tug the heart-strings, the response to the film was emphatically positive. It begins with the protagonist Michael (Joseph Johnson), an earnest business consultant, attempting to dissuade a colleague from leaving…

‘Studio Ghibli Forever’ at the Curzon Cinema

It is not unusual to see dedicated Studio Ghibli seasons, whether it’s on Film 4 or on the big screen. The Gulbenkian Cinema has regular showings of Ghibli works – just several weeks ago it was screening Laputa: Castle in the Sky, the studio’s first animated adventure. Animation from 1986 might sound outdated, but the beauty of the Studio Ghibli classics are exactly that – the beauty. The artwork that provides so many vivid backdrops and magical settings for these adventures is definitely something to admire on the big screen. For those not hugely familiar with the Ghibli name, it’s…

Review: The Collider 2

Jack Hsuan reviews The Collider 2, a PC title from Shortbreak Studios. The Collider 2 sees you, the player, take control of a small spacecraft and traverse your way through the ever-shifting corridors of an invading mothership. The game itself has four different game modes; a speed run, a collection run, a destruction run, and a boss battle at the end of each of the game’s six sectors. Each sector is harder than the last, with the corridor through which you drive becoming increasingly constrictive. For this reason it’s worth pushing through the first few, which are more of a…

Pride: Marching in the Wrong Direction?

On June 28 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn – the centre of a hidden gay community in the middle of New York. But this time the raid was different – this time people fought back shouting, “gay power,” marking the start of the Stonewall Riots. The riots went on for more than three days, and sparked the beginning of a nation-wide movement for LGBT rights. The following year, this was commemorated by the very first Pride march. Over time, Pride and other LGBT movements have achieved huge advances on their primary focus of human rights. No longer in the…
