9 Things it’s socially unacceptable to do once you become an adult

As we grow up, some of the things we did when we were younger, become less accepted in public, so it’s time to act your age and enter the reality of the adult world.

1. Spend the day in your PJs: Apparently getting dressed is an important part of the day, and it’s considered lazy to stay in your pyjamas. But if you could do it on Sundays with your family at home, what’s to stop you now you’ve left? But mostly, according to Spotted on Facebook and Tesco, it’s unacceptable to wear your pyjamas in public unless it’s raising money for charity.

2. Wearing dirty clothes: Repeating outfits until your dirty washing disappears and magically reappears clean on the end of your bed, like it does at home, is frowned upon, so maybe it’s time to work out how the washing machine works.

3. Chocolate for dinner: Easter might be coming but apparently that isn’t an excuse for every meal to become chocolate, as much as we would like it to be, so balance it out with an apple because surely that cancels out the sugar.

4. Napping: We all know university is tiring, so reverting back to our child-like ways of sleeping during the day rejuvenates and enables us to tackle our mountains of work. Sometimes it’s hard to keep your eyes open and when you realise you’ve been staring at the title of your essay for a while maybe it’s time for a snooze.

5. Tantrums: When you become an adult, you realise life isn’t fair; but with this wisdom also comes the realisation that tantrums don’t solve anything. Although mum and dad may have given in when you rolled around on the floor screaming, that’s not the way to get an extension on your essay or a pay rise at work.

6. Dress like a teenager: Whilst trousers hanging almost down by your ankles might have been a good look at school when you were hanging out with your friends, now a good belt looks much smarter. And if the backwards baseball cap happens to disappear too, then all the better.

7. Use ‘my mum said no’ as an excuse: A little white lie never hurt anyone, except making your parents sound strict, but now you are more independent, it’s time to be a little more creative – “too much work”, “not enough in this week’s budget” – to get out of doing something you don’t want to do.

8. Rely on Mum to call the Doctor: Talking on the phone is a big fear, especially when you call the wrong number, but getting mum to phone for the doctors will only be met with a disapproving glare from her as she organises your personal life.

9. Watch cartoons: Despite there recently being a Spongebob Squarepants night at venue, apparently we aren’t quite the target audience they have in mind anymore. Instead we should be watching the news and keeping up to date with current events, rather than Spongebob and Patrick’s latest adventures.
