Where to Find the Best Food on Campus

If you’re tired of living off variations of pasta you might want to try grabbing a bite on campus. It’s not your mum’s cooking – but there’s something for everyone and it won’t cost an arm and a leg. You can take your pick of a range of tastes and cuisines. From Nachos to Thai green curry, the catered food on campus tries its best…and arguably delivers.

If you fancy a steak and fries, we’d point you towards Origins in Darwin. Cooked to order, the steaks are served with a creamy delicious peppercorn sauce, crispy fries and onion rings. Doesn’t sound like a typical student menu, does it? Origins also boasts of barbecue glazed ribs (which by the way are delish), loaded nachos and po’boys. With all this on offer, why make the trek into town? Also… they have sweet potato fries! I rest my case.

If you’re looking for breakfast the dining hall in Rutherford serves a full English buffet style. Walk in with your appetite and walk out with a belly full. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and Rutherford’s got you covered. Breakfast isn’t hard to get right, so what can go wrong?

For lunch you could head up to Dolche Vita. It’s a cafe hidden in Keynes that serves an array of culinary delights. More than you would expect from an outlet on campus, the menu offers a great choice of meal. Some of the hits include Moroccan lamb, Jerk Chicken and Thai Green Curry. The portions are more-ish, the food flavourful and the choices are tempting. They’ve also got a sandwich bar and old favourites like jacket potatoes and an array of salads.

But if you aren’t picky and just fancy a burger, Mungos is the one for you. This student bar encompassed in the maze that is Eliot is more of a chill spot. Along with a well stocked bar they serve sandwiches, paninis, burgers and flavoured milkshakes (made with ice-cream, the best kind). They add real chocolate bars to the milkshakes and have a range of alcoholic ones too for when you’re craving something a bit more grown-up. It’s a decent selection and a great spot to meet up after lectures and get a bite with your pint. On Tuesdays Mungo’s does a burger & drink offer for a cool fiver.

In summary, UKC offers a lot of choice on campus for food. Though some are better than others, cough cough Hut 8, you’ll definitely find something for you. If you live on campus, take full advantage and explore! It’s all student friendly prices and will be better than your pasta.
