InQuire team to sleep rough to raise money for Catching Lives

InQuire have teamed up with CSR FM and KTV to present ‘Going Live for Catching Lives’, the 48 hour student media marathon, taking place in Kent Union’s entertainment outlet The Attic.

Two CSR presenters (Jessie Martin and Ryan Bartrop), will be broadcasting live uninterrupted, for 48 hours from midday on February 14th – midday on February 16th, attempting to stay awake to raise money and awareness for the local charity.

As part of what will be the biggest fundraiser ever by the three media groups, some of the InQuire team will be sleeping rough on Friday night and other student groups across campus have also signed up to get involved.

KTV- the student led TV station – will also be filming the entire show live which can be watched online, with regular guests, special interviews and live coverage of RAG’s (Raise and Give) charity event – Take Me Out.

This event is the first student media fundraiser of the academic year. In the past there have been collaborations to raise thousands of pounds for national charities and cause,s such as Children in Need and Japan following the tsunami disaster.

InQuire’s Newspaper Features Editor Natalie Tipping, who has been involved in organising the event said:

“We’ve all worked really hard to get this up and running, it’s a massive thing for all of us and we just hope it goes off without a hitch. Catching Lives is a really worthwhile cause, and we hope to raise lots of money for them”.

CSR FM Station Manager Ryan Bartrop, who has signed up to be part of the 48 hour team said:

“This is one of the biggest things we have ever tried to do at CSR FM and Jessie and I are really excited but slightly nervous about attempting to last 48 hours on the radio. The early hours of the morning could be funny to listen to and watch! Aside from the sleep deprivation, I am really chuffed that we are taking time out to support a local charity that affects our own city”.

The Student Media Manager Mel Lewis said:

“Student media is utilising all its platforms to help raise money and awareness for a local charity that was agreed on unanimously. The volunteers are really pushing themselves to produce 48 hours of quality radio and visual broadcasting, and the InQuire guys sleeping rough are also incredibly dedicated to the cause. I hope that those who manage to catch any of the coverage see the hard work being put in, and support in any way that they can. We hope this will also be worthy of Guinness World Record recognition.”
