For the second year running, the Kent Law Campaign geared up for its fun run.

The Kent Law Campaign aims to raise £5 million in funds for new facilities for the School, including a new Law Clinic and a Mooting Programme, which will allow students to practice for the future. The event was sponsored by LexisNexis, a company that travelled from Crewe to run at the event.

Caralyn Duignan and Stuart Mann, Account Managers of LexisNexis, said: “We feel that they have put on such a professional event.

“It matches any event the company have been a part of.”

Registration for the event opened at 10:00am, with stalls being set up to a motivating soundtrack of pop tunes as runners apprehensively registered. The runners collected their water bottles, courtesy of LexisNexis, and waited for the fun to begin.

At around 11:00am, runners were graced with a performance from BruKent, a society that reflects and celebrates the culture of Brunei. The fun run was then graced with another performance from the society later on in the day.

At 11:15am, the runners were gathered into the centre of Eliot Hall. Mike Burrell from Kent Sport led them into an intense warm up, to make sure that they were all limbered up for the run.

To motivate them, Sam from Santander Universities was dressed as the Kent Bunny, the University’s 50th Anniversary Mascot, and was high-fiving people as they approached the finish line, and offered hugs afterwards. Santander Universities are also supporting the campaign, as Sam told InQuire: “We will match the amount raised, which should hopefully double the funds.”

“The target of our partnership with the Kent Law Campaign is to promote education.”

As the runners warmed up, the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Councillor Ann Taylor, pictured below with event Compere Dave Cocozza, arrived to observe the event.

Once warmed up, the runners made their way to the start line for an 11:30 start. The start and finish line began in front of the Senate building and Templeman Library. Approximately one hundred participants lined up, to which the race was begun by the Lord Mayor sounding an air horn.

After the last runner made their way past the finish line, everyone headed back to Eliot for a post-run break, free massages from Clarins, and for the presentation of the awards by the Lord Mayor. More performances took place, with one by the Musical Theatre Society. They performed a rendition of ‘We Will Rock You’ from their upcoming showcase, ‘Time After Time,’ creating a party atmosphere which had the whole crowd clapping along. BruKent performed once more, allowing for a diverse and creative end to the run.

Finally, the winners were presented with their awards by the Lord Mayor. The Fastest Male award was given to Peter Gleissner, who finished the race in an impressive 21 minutes and 29 seconds, whilst the fastest female, awarded to Stephanie Bourgeois, ran hers in an astounding 27 minutes and 10 seconds. As judged by the Lord Mayor, the Best Dressed award went to Ciaron Watts, who was dressed as a very convincing pirate!
