Migrant family found on Canterbury campus

Following weeks of unrest due to the huge number of migrants trying to make the journey across the channel through illegal means, it has been reported today that a family of migrants have been found in the back of a lorry on the Canterbury campus of the University of Kent. Delays on the M20 and M2 have left traffic in Kent in a state of chaos for weeks, due mainly to problems with channel crossings because of the high number of migrants attempting to enter the UK illegally. Maintenance grants get scrapped in new Government budget

Ruby Lyle explains what the government’s decision to scrap maintenance grants means for students. Maintenance grants are to be eliminated from September 2016, as was announced in George Osborne’s budget on Wednesday 8 July. This is expected to affect over half a million students in England alone. The grants, which are non-repayable sums of money intended to aid students with a household income of up to £42,620, shall instead be replaced with increased maintenance loans reaching £8,200 (this is a rise of £2,460 in potential loans for Kent students in the current system). Kent Alumnus E.L. James releases a 50 Shades spin-off

Sex sells? Well for the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise it certainly does! And she’s at it again- Kent alumnus and author E.L. James has brought out a fourth, spin-off novel entitled Grey to mark the birthday of the protagonist billionaire and bondage-loving Christian Grey (June 18th).
