Security alert at Medway Campus

There is currently a security alert at the University of Kent’s Medway campus. So far, the Drill Hall Library, the Pilkington Building and the C4 construction site have been evacuated. The Drill Hall Car Park and Central Avenue are closed.

At 16:07, the University confirmed via Twitter that Pilkington had been re-opened. At 16:37 the Drill Hall confirmed over Twitter that the library would remain closed until the morning of 3 December at the earliest.

This follows two security alerts in the past two days at the Canterbury campus, both of which were cleared up. On 1 December the Templeman Library, along with surrounding buildings, were evacuated due to a mysterious package.

This was followed by another security alert at the Templeman Library on the morning of 2 December, which saw Grimond, the Senate, Aphra, and Lumley also evacuated.

Police attended at Canterbury on both occasions and are currently in attendance at the Medway campus.

More to follow.
