A 19-year-old man was knifed in Canterbury city centre on 9 April.
The police are questioning a 20-year-old man after the stabbing left the teenager in a “serious but stable” condition.
Officers have been searching the River Stour for the weapon, believed to be a large kitchen knife.
At 6:53pm officers were first called to St Peter’s Street. It is believed an argument arose amongst a group of men earlier in Westgate Gardens.
A section of the gardens and the bottom of the high street were cordoned off for most of the evening.
DI Jon Holl, investigating officer said: “We believe this is an isolated incident in which the victim knew the attacker.
“We thank witnesses who have got in touch already and we would ask that if there is anyone who has information and hasn’t spoken to an officer, to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 09-1240.”
A 20-year-old man from London was arrested on Friday 10 April in connection with the incident. He is currently in police custody.
