History of the Trade Single Launch

The Live Music Society organised event at the Farmhouse venue on the 1st of March 2010 saw History of the Trade opening for a.genuine.freakshow.
The University of Kent based support act History of the Trade was in fine form promoting their download-only new single, You Found: Moon. Before their sound check began there wasn’t a seat left vacant in the venue. The awaiting crowd was a mixture of Live Music Society members, Farmhouse regulars and friends of the local band.
History of the Trade’s set featured old favourites from their self-titled EP released in September such as Dizzy Heights and The Chase/The Kill. The band then forewent playing a new unfinished track. This was replaced with a crowd request for their Kasabian cover of Fire. Despite the difference in sound it was surprisingly well executed and definitely well received by the audience. However, an odd choice, considering the grand finale of their set, saw the performance of newly released track You Found: Moon.
You Found: Moon is a continuation of History of the Trade’s knack for self proclaimed ‘loud indie music’ and produces obvious influences from band-favourite Biffy Clyro. Though this is similar to their previous work the use of the synth within the track departs from the four-piece’s usual guitars-bass-drums formation. This new arrangement gives a more upbeat, contemporary angle to the band’s musical style by adding a splash from other genres. All in all a successful first single for this budding band.
The headline spot saw 7-piece, Reading based band, a.genuine.freakshow take the stage. Their eclectic range of instruments included an electric upright bass, electric violin and trumpet to a bass, two guitars, and a drum kit. The spiralling melodic sound produced can only be marvelled at. Unfortunately the vocals produced were slightly too quiet at times to get full appreciation of the lyrics, but such tracks as Luckmore Drive more than compensated through the instrumental feats. Similarities can be drawn between the music of a.genuine.freakshow and bands such as Arcade Fire, Radiohead and Mew. The orchestral arrangements and high-pitched vocals of lead singer, Timothy Sutcliffe culminate into an enthralling performance. Luckily the Live Music Society worked a great deal to employ this band to grace Farmhouse’s stage.
