Keynes F.C beat the Canterbury Christ Church University 6th team 8-1 in the March 10th Varsity football match.

Keynes controlled possession throughout the first half and managed to go 3-0 up before the break. Simon Newton opened the scoring for Keynes from just outside the penalty area with a well placed shot into the bottom left hand corner of the Christ Church goal.

The Keynes players put together some good passes and were too quick for the Christ Church players who were guilty of several poorly timed challenges. Keynes got a second when Newton started a move that allowed Richard Taylor to set up Ross Holland who finished from a tight angle inside the penalty area.

Ryan Waterman added a third from a dangerous cross that the Christ Church defence failed to clear. Four minutes into the second half Christ Church pulled a goal back when their striker capitalised on a mistake by the Keynes goalkeeper who fumbled a catch from an ambitious Christ Church long ball.

However Christ Church’s hopes of a comeback were ended just two minutes later by Keynes when a through ball by Ashley Edwards was converted by Waterman with a crisp finish from close range.

The Christ Church goalkeeper made some excellent saves in an attempt to keep the score line respectable but it was not enough as Keynes scored three goals in five minutes to make the score 7-1.

Luke Wilkinson added an eight in the last minute after being played through by Edwards to finish off the considerable victory.
